WHAT IS A PET SCAN?
Positron emission tomography uses radio tracers, such as modified glucose, with a special camera and computer to reveal information about both the structure and function of cells and tissues in the body during a single imaging session.
WHAT IS A CT SCAN?
The CT Scan uses x-rays and a computer to make a picture of sections of the body. A CT scan shows the body´s organs in greater detail and more clearly than regular x-rays.
How do I prepare for an PET / CT Scan procedure?
Preparation for a PET Scan is simple and easy:
Make sure you do not eat for 8 hours before the test.
No caffeine for 12 hours before the exam.
You CAN drink as much plain water as you desire.
If you are diabetic please let the Tristar Wellness staff know before the exam. They will give you additional instructions.
Leave as many objects at home that you can.
How does my doctor get my PET Scan results?
The interpretation is done by a board certified radiologist, a medical doctor, who generates a report within 24-48 hours, faster if requested.
The report is automatically sent to your doctor and kept in our records for safekeeping.
Our radiologists make themselves available for any questions or further clarification at any time.
How long does a PET/ CT Scan procedure take?
The PET & CT Scan usually lasts about 45-60 minutes.
The imaging time takes an additional 30-45 minutes
Please plan for time to check in and prepare the equipment. This could take an additional 30 minutes.

Do I get a copy of my images?
Yes, you are welcome to get a copy of your images on a CD/DVD at the time of your examination at no additional cost.
