An ultrasound is an imaging technique that allows you to take a look at the organs inside the body and it is widely used in the medical field. High-frequency sound waves travel from the probe through the gel into the body and a computer then uses those waves to create an image of what is inside.
A 2D ultrasound is a conventional prenatal ultrasound that displays two-dimensional images. Although this type of image can be very informative to ultrasound professionals, to the average person, the picture may not look at all like a baby.
Advancements in the technology have led to higher quality 3D and 4D ultrasounds. These display much clearer pictures of the baby. The 3D ultrasound is shown in three-dimensions, while 4D is like a 3D but it’s live! This means that you can see the baby moving in real-time. 3D and 4D ultrasounds can show activities of the baby that are not possible with 2D. The baby can be seen smiling, crying, yawning, and other amazing details with great clarity with 4D.
